Natural Gas Detectors.

Local Law 157 mandates the installation of natural gas detectors in all residential buildings with gas hookups, with an updated compliance deadline of January 1, 2027 (previously May 1, 2025). Building owners are responsible for the initial installation and periodic replacement of natural gas detectors, while occupants are responsible for the maintenance and repair of battery-operated devices within their dwelling units.

Detectors must comply with UL 1484 standards, which are designed to detect methane (natural gas) and other combustible gases, triggering an alarm when a leak is detected.
