Bioheat® Fuel - Energo

What is Bioheat® Fuel?

Bioheat® fuel isn’t just a buzzword – It’s fuel you can feel good about. Bioheat® fuel is a blend of traditional ultra-low sulfur heating fuel with renewable biodiesel. Renewable biodiesel is biodegradable fuel manufactured from vegetable oil, animal fat, or recycled restaurant grease. Because of its lower sulfur content, Bioheat® fuel releases fewer toxic emissions into the environment – making it cleaner and safer for the environment than standard heating oil.

Types of Bioheat® Fuel Blends

There are a variety of Bioheat® fuel blends available, from 2% biodiesel (B2) to 20% biodiesel (B20). The higher the percentage of biodiesel within a blend, the lower the amount of harmful carbon emissions are released into our environment.

Working toward the goal of reducing harmful emissions, the New York City Council passed Local Law 42 in 2010, which required all heating oil to contain a minimum of 2% biodiesel. By 2017, the requirements in New York City were at 5% biodiesel, and by 2034, the minimum will be 20%.

While the minimum standard for biodiesel in heating oil is currently at 5% within the State of New York, a tax credit is available for those who purchase biodiesel blends of 6% or more. Energo offers Bioheat® fuel blends of B6 and B20, both of which are eligible for tax credits in New York.
